The ‘cleanskin’, minimal labelling concept comes from Australia and customers soon cottoned on that this was a great way to experience premium wines at low prices. We search out the same deals in Spain and our Buyer is very often first to hear of them. This is one from a world-class family bodega in Navarra that needed to clear some cellar space. It’s a blend of Tempranillo, smooth plummy Merlot and cassis-laden Cabernet, aged in barrel for 30 months and three years in bottle. The flavours are so well married together that this wine is ready to drink now. But, with excellent maturity, it will go the distance. It has a rich palate with ripe black fruit and spicy tobacco. A great red with roast lamb, wild mushroom risotto or game pie.
