The Story Behind the Bottle
There is lots of bright, bold fruit appeal in this red from an old friend in New South Wales, Australia. Its name refers to a period in the first half of the century, when the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area was redeveloped to provide settlement areas for soldiers returning from the World Wars. The 20-acre farms were designed to be just the right size to sustain a family and the area became one with a strong community ethos. Soldier Farms is a tribute to this heritage. It’s three quarters liquorice-scented, blackberry-rich Syrah, with the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, a grape with an accent on cassis fruit. Lovely to sip on its own, ideal at a barbecue or just the wine with warming hearty suppers.
