The Spirit
In a remote village on the West Coast of Denmark, nine friends (a doctor, a chef, a butcher, a teacher, a helicopter pilot and four engineers) had a dream to make whisky with what grew around them. With no distilling experience, but a whole lot of passion, they began to experiment. Then finally in 2006, the first drops of the second distillation came through and Stauning has since been served in the finest bars and restaurants, including the world-famous Noma. Stauning Rye is a Nordic rye whisky with dark, roasted aromas, and a long fruity aftertaste. It only contains floor-malted rye and barley and is double-distilled in open-fired stills creating complex, deep flavours of chocolate, caramel and roasted nut flavours.
