The Wine
"South African winemakers are producing an abundance of world-class wines" wrote the Press Association. Excelsior Estate has been doing that for 150 years, since its foundation in Robertson in 1870. Today it’s still owned by the De Wet family, with father and son duo – Freddie and Peter – running the show. Their philosophy is that great wine is made in the vineyard, so much care is given to the vines. The Coach House is a new wine from the team – all fruity and fresh, no oak and brimming with juicy plum fruit with a touch of violets. Ultimately it’s deliciously quaffable and smooth, a top drop to open with friends, no food, or with a light lunch, grilled meats or a squash and goat’s cheese bake.
