The Story Behind the Bottle
Gavi is a buzzword among lovers of Italian white wines and Villa Broglia Anniversario is exceptionally fine. It uses grapes from two of the family’s best vineyards – one planted in 1953, the other in 1989. Both enjoy a splendid southerly exposure, at altitude, which encourages a long, slow ripening. A year’s ageing on its lees lends the wine a minerality and roundness that only the best Gavi ever achieve. It’s typical of the quality you’d expect from this exemplary family estate, with vineyards in the Classico area, purchased in 1972 by Bruno Broglia, a textile entrepreneur. Their wines regularly score highly with critics. This is a fine, racy, dry white, with floral, pear and citrus freshness. Enjoy with antipasti or panfried fish.
