In 1826, Hugh Barton of Irish extraction, acquired what was originally a quarter share of the Léoville Las Cases estate. Léoville Barton, as it became known, has remained in the family ever since, and under the direction of Anthony Barton, the château emerged from the shadow of neighbours Léoville Las Cases and Ducru Beaucaillou. Today his daughter, Lilian, and her two children are the driving force. Critic Antonio Galloni praised the 2017 as “simply fabulous” awarding it 93-96. Neal Martin wrote, "this is a knockout," scoring it 93-95. Due to September rains, it is a high 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and no Franc, with 60% new oak. Powerful structure, dense fruit, superb freshness. Really impressive. Seductive now, will cellar magnificently.
