Southern France is a treasure trove for quality wines with great value. There is a myriad of appellations and producers to get to know. And fewer rules to follow, so winemakers can be creative. Yannick Pons of Domaine Saint André has a beautiful estate, skirted by the Canal du Midi and the Roman road Via Domitia. It's not far from the famous Oppidum (hilltop town) d’Ensérune, which dates back some 3,000 years. His Chardonnay has been hugely popular over the years so when we found out he had produced a Sauvignon Blanc, we couldn’t resist snapping some up. Zesty, crisp, and deliciously refreshing, this wine combines ripe fruit flavours with a stylish elegance. It’s a perfect aperitif or a superb match for pesto pasta, or your favourite sushi.
