Vintage after vintage, the wines of this Second Growth Saint-Estèphe show just why Château Cos d’Estournel is considered among the legends of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. With four scores of 97 upwards from leading critics, the 2022 does not disappoint. The estate lies in the south of the commune, on the border with Pauillac, and is regarded as the leader of the appellation. As you'd expect, the wine is Cabernet-led, with some Merlot, aged in 50% new oak to match the power of the fruit. 2022 had a particularly dry, hot summer, so you can expect generous fruit, intensity and weight, currently tightly packed. A "full-bodied, massive, opulent style", "a stacked mid-palate, flawless balance, and a monster of a finish" wrote Jeb Dunnock. One to cellar.
