Domaine Richard Rottiers Dernier Souffle 2022
Moulin à Vent AOC

Moulin à Vent is famed for its aromatic, intense, ageworthy reds, which contrast with the lighter, easy drinking styles of other Beaujolais Crus. From a 60-year-old vineyard and a meticulous estate, this is a powerful red that will age well.

The Wine
Named after its famous windmill, Moulin à Vent is known as the ‘King of Beaujolais’ because of its voluptuous wines that can age for a decade or more. Like other wines from the Beaujolais Crus, Moulin à Vent is made purely from Gamay, but it is the manganese-rich, granitic soils that give the wine a character that, after ageing, is often compared to fine Burgundy. This is from a superb domaine founded in 2007 by Richard Rottiers. He has 5 hectares of vines, aged between 40-70 years old. Dernier Souffle, or last breath, comes from 60-year-old vineyards next to a cemetery in Romaneche-Thorins. Aged for eight months in cask on his organic estate, it has powerful dark fruit and mocha aromas with firm tannins supporting the velvety fruit.
