Château Angélus is one of the most revered properties of Saint-Émilion, as well as being one of the largest (it has 39 hectares). It has been owned by the Boüard family for eight generations, since 1782, and in 2012 was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé A status. It boasts a south-facing slope with limestone-rich clay towards the top, excellent for Merlot, and warmer, sandier soils nearer the bottom, where Cabernet Franc excels. A gentler extraction and a softer touch of oak results in a beautifully balanced, expressive wine that has been much praised by the critics. "Wafts from the glass with deep aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with hints of iris, licorice and pencil lead", (RobertParker.com). An exceptional wine to cellar.
