With La Conseillante as a neighbour, Pétrus to the north and Cheval Blanc just across the border in Saint-Émilion to the south, Château L’Evangile is a superbly situated estate. Realising its enormous potential, the powerful Rothschild family bought a controlling interest in L’Evangile in 1990. Since then, through thick and thin, the wines have been consistently outstanding. In a superb vintage like 2022, the results are simply extraordinary. It’s made mostly from Merlot, with some Cabernet Franc and a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon, then aged in oak casks (50% new). Decanter awards this wine 97 points saying: “So well constructed and delivered, just toned down, less shouty, more sophisticated, one to watch and will age wonderfully”.
