Buffet’s small plot in Les Rugiens is home to vines over 100 years old and in keeping with tradition, is ploughed by horse. It’s a powerful, structured style with incredible intensity yet the fruit is still delightfully pretty and delicate.

The Wine
When it comes to winemaking heritage, Marc Olivier Buffet has centuries of it! His family first began growing grapes in 1692, making their domaine, tucked behind the village church, one of the oldest in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune. Volnay is the star appellation of this area and also Marc’s forte, along with fine Pommard and Savigny Lès Beaune, every one of his wines sensationally silky, supple and complex Pinot Noir. Now one of Marc’s daughter is joining him at the domaine, so the continuity of this great estate is assured. This is their superb Pommard Premier Cru, Les Rugiens, with its powerful, structured style, incredible intensity, yet with fruit that’s delicate and light on its feet. A red that will reward patience.
