For years now, Grand-Puy-Lacoste has been outperforming its 5ème Cru Classé classification. That's in large part thanks to the dedication of its owners, the Borie family. François Xavier is in charge, with his daughter, Emeline, now directing the winemaking. They boast 60 hectares of vines in one block, surrounding the château, all planted on exceptional deep gravel beds over limestone. They've also dug 100 soil pits to better understand the differences within this single vineyard. Wine Advocate described the 2019: "minty cassis, plums, loamy soil, burning embers and cigar wrapper; rich and velvety palate that’s deep and concentrated, its generous core of lively fruit concealing an elegantly muscular chassis of ripe, powdery tannin."
