The Wine
From a family long established in Chablis, Samuel Billaud started his winemaking career at Domaine Billaud-Simon in 1985. He set up on his own in 2009 and has carved out a reputation as one of the finest winemakers in Chablis. Les Grands Terroirs comes from three parcels of vines in different sectors of the appellation – Les Pargues towards the village of Préhy, Les Cartes between the 1er Crus of Vaillons and Montmains, and Bas de Chapelots, just below the 1er Cru of Montée de Tonnerre. This may be a village-level Chablis in name, but it puts most growers’ 1er Crus to shame. Incredible price versus quality.
