Domdechant Werner Hochheim Riesling Classic 2019

Rheingau QbA

Top spot for Riesling has always been Germany, and Hochheim is one of the country’s most prized areas. From a remarkable seventh generation family estate, this is a beautifully poised white with ripe peach notes backed by racy freshness. A stunner.

Overlooking the Rhine as it stretches westward past Wiesbaden, the Rheingau is a region with stunning views and magnificent historic estates. The Hochheim area, with south facing slopes and chalky, mineral rich soil, is renowned for the outstanding quality of its Rieslings. Here, Dr Franz Werner Michel is the seventh generation to head the Domdechant Werner estate. The property comprises a beautiful 1864 manor house and vineyards with compelling views across Mainz and the Rhine and Main river valleys. Made purely from the estate's Hochheim fruit, this Riesling Classic is off-dry in style with soft peach character backed by racy acidity. A perfect glass on its own any time, it’s also great with shellfish dishes or smoked salmon salad.

"Terrific balance of bright stone fruits of good ripeness, cut through by rapier like acidity" Samuel Fishlock
