‘Surprising’, ‘spectacular’ … even ‘ravishing’. The 2016 vintage in northern Rhône has got critics reaching for the superlatives. You’ll understand why when you taste this outstanding-value Crozes-Hermitage from one of our favourite Rhône producers. Vigneron Jean-Pierre Ferraton founded his cellar in 1946. Today it’s run by his son Michel – under the auspices of Hermitage legend, Michel Châpoutier Crozes sits beneath the great hill of Hermitage and produces seriously good Syrah that’s a little lighter in style to its revered neighbour – at a brilliant value price Most of the Ferraton vines are grown bio-dynamically and winemaking is kept as simple as possible, making for the purest expression of the great Syrah grape Dark purple colour and a gentle bouquet of red fruits and wild flowers with hints of liquorice. Meaty richness, spiced bramble fruit flavours and ripe tannins. Enjoy now with rare roast beef – or lay it down and wait for its complex flavours to fully unfurl.
