Nelson Bay Pinot Noir 2019

Nelson

Long, slow ripening is essential for elegant, expressive Pinot Noir. Thanks to cooling sea breezes, that’s just what Nelson, along the coast from Marlborough, provides. Old vines ensure this delicate red has berry intensity and spicy complexity, too.

Master of Wine Tim Atkin notes: “New Zealand’s Pinot Noirs are as good as anyone’s outside Burgundy.” These days they can also be expensive, but with Nelson Bay you can enjoy elegant, cool climate Pinot Noir at an affordable price. It’s from an estate founded in the 1970s by Hermann Seifried, and today run by son Chris and daughters Heidi and Anna. Heidi is a dentist by day, so Chris is chief in the cellar and the main talent behind this silky, medium bodied red. Brimming with ripe berry, plum and chocolate character, Nelson Bay is a masterclass in smooth, supple, understated brilliance. Silky textured, it's dangerously moreish, with ample berry fruit, leaf and spice. Serve in large bowled glasses with duck, lamb chops or mushroom risotto.

"An ideal lovely light red with good fruit. This is the NZ Pinot to buy again!" 5-Star Online Review
