The Story Behind the Bottle
Culemborg Cape Red is typical of the quality and value that South Africa offers. The 2018 vintage was heavily affected by drought, the worse for 100 years, and grape yields were the smallest in over a decade. The upside was that quality was high. At the picturesque Franschhoek Cellar, Ryan Puttick hand picked parcels of spicy Shiraz, blackcurrant rich Cabernet and soft, fragrant Cinsault and crafted them into this smooth, flavour filled red. It’s a rare blend, but it works brilliantly – as you’ll discover from the wafting berry aromas to the intense, mouthfilling flavours of summer fruit and discreet spice. Culemborg Cape Red is a very sociable wine and perfect for sharing with plates of cold meats, veggie kebabs or hard cheeses.
