The Story Behind the Bottle
Talented winemaker Ben Jordaan – or Bokkie, as his friends know him – makes easy, everyday wines right up to stunning super-premium blockbusters. But what he likes most of all is to surprise us with something we haven’t seen before. South Africa’s fruit and spice Pinotage grape is a no-brainer (we love it!), and adding Shiraz for its smoky raspberry notes and Ruby Cabernet for colour and juicy fruit has been an overwhelming success. There’s something about the Western Cape vineyards that brings out the best in these grapes, too. Soaring temperatures are soothed by the gentle ‘Cape Doctor’ sea breezes, and the sunny mountain-side slopes make ideal ripening sites. Ben reckons this is a red for pizza and for parties or for everyday suppers.
