The Story Behind the Bottle
Alpha Domus was founded in 1989, in the early days of New Zealand winemaking. Anthonius and Leonarda Ham saw that Hawke's Bay’s Western Heretaunga, with its ancient riverbeds and moderate climate, held the secret to fine wines. They planted vineyards in this area, now known as the Bridge Pa Triangle district, and were one of the subregion's first wineries. Still family owned today, they’ve won many Trophies and 30 years on, they have converted fully to organic viticulture, with certification from 2023. Named after the famous New Zealand aviator Jean Batten, the wine is a rich, oak-fermented white. Whole bunch-pressed for freshness, it delivers roasted peach, creamy caramel and spice notes with a zesty mineral finish. A fine-dining white.
