The Wine
Picture an historic French château surrounded by a belt of green vineyards. This scenic image is the Château de Bligny estate in Champagne. Nestled in the heart of the Côte des Bars, it was built in 1773 by Marquis de Dampierre on the foundations of a feudal castle. Nowadays it is owned by the Rapeneau family who have revamped the vineyards and renovated the château to its former glory. All winemaking stages are done at the estate – from growing, to fermenting, to ageing. Their superb NV rosé is equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with 25% of that reserve wine to add extra toasty richness, plus 15% red wine to lend its lovely deep hue. Tangy berry fruit, toasty richness and incisive mineral finesse make it a fine celebration fizz.
