The Wine Advocate called this "a brilliant wine”, “it comes warmly recommended”. The property dates back to 1680, but it was new owners in 1988 that have made the real difference. Awarded 96-97 points, the 2022 is superb, elegant and complex.

The Story Behind the Bottle
Lying in the south of Saint-Julien, opposite Château Beychevelle and close neighbours to Second Growths Ducru Beaucaillou, Gruaud Larose and Léoville Barton, Branaire Ducru is a very fine Fourth Growth. Since 1988, it has been owned by the Maroteaux family – Patrick and now his son François – who have made significant investment to upgrade vineyards and build a new winery and chai for ageing. Nevertheless, as Wine Advocate says: “Given the Maroteaux family’s sensible approach to pricing, this is likely to number among the must-purchase wines of the 2022 vintage”. “This represents an excellent Branaire Ducru that will age over many years and will surely appeal to those seeking more classical Saint-Julien” (Vinous). A serious wine, to cellar.
