Château de Lastours Grand Vin 2018
Corbières AOC
Loading...
The superb, mature Grand Vin from the magnificent Château de Lastours, one of Corbières’ top estates. It’s a classic mix of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache and Carignan, aged in part-new oak barrels for structure and complexity. A very fine Languedoc red.

The Wine
Château de Lastours is a very beautiful, historic estate in the rugged Corbières. It boasts history going back to the 12th century, when it was a fortress keeping watch along the Domitian Way. It’s changed hands a few times through the centuries, but even in 1989 its Grand Vin was awarded ‘Best Wine in the World’ by wine writer Robert Joseph. Today it has 100 hectares of vines amongst its extensive swathes of hilly scrubland and olive groves, all tended organically, with a strong focus on biodiversity. Their new winery, semi-underground, is impressive too. The Grand Vin is a classic mix of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache and Carignan from their oldest vines, matured a year in part-new barrels. After six years’ age, it is showing at its best.
