The Wine
Nestled between the top Haut-Médoc communes of Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, Château Puy Castérà has many prestigious neighbours. It takes its name from a fortress that once stood on a nearby hill. It also boasts the distinction of having belonged to one of the greatest names in viticulture – Henry Marès, who discovered how to combat powdery mildew in the mid 19th century. Today the estate has 18 hectares of vines, with an average age of 28 years old. A rich Merlot-led blend, with portions of both Cabernets and a little Petit Verdot, it’s still showing intense black fruits, with a full body and tannins that have softened with its six years' age. Ideally open early and decant. A fine partner to roast meats, hard cheeses or a warming casserole.
