Nebbiolo is one of Piedmont’s most prized grapes and is at the heart of some of Italy’s most premium red wines, like Barolo. Famous for their complex rose, dark berry and spice character, these wines often come with a hefty price tag. But there’s another way to enjoy this famous grape – Langhe Nebbiolo.
Bright, juicy and filled with red fruit flavours, Langhe Nebbiolo is made in the same way as the region’s more famous styles, but typically uses the fruit from younger vines, lending it a lighter body and vibrant character.
The Sartirano family has been making fine wine in Piedmont for four generations, since 1871. They've gradually built up the estate, adding 27 hectares of Barolo's finest, south-facing vineyards in 1988. In 2002, they purchased the Ghercina property in Langhe's Novello, building a modern cellar, 70% underground!
Today’s wine is a fruity, spicy Nebbiolo with oodles of bright cherry and plum fruit, light spice and floral hints. Time spent aging in large oak barrels has softened its tannins, creating a sleek and silky wine that pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto, traditional ragù or hard cheeses.
