The Wine
Since the late 1970s, California’s Napa Valley has been renowned for premium Bordeaux blends. It was kickstarted by the ‘Judgement of Paris’ tasting, which pitted top clarets against a handful of California Cabernets. And the Californians took top spots. Conn Creek was already on the fine wine trail – it had been founded in 1973 by Bill and Kathy Collins. They took on 18 hectares of vines and replanted them all with Cabernet Sauvignon. Their first release was an overnight sensation. They built a new winery in premium Rutherford in 1979, one of the first ‘green’ wineries in the world. This Special Selection Cabernet, awarded 95 points by Decanter, uses grapes from seven top Napa appellations. Barrel matured, it’s delicious, complex and long.
