Dönnhoff Höllenpfad im Mühlenberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2024

Dönnhoff is one of the finest, most exciting family estates of Germany's Nahe. Dating back to 1750, it was headed up until recently by the founder's grandson Helmut Dönnhoff. Helmut’s son, Cornelius, is now winemaker and has "bottled probably the best wine series in the history of the domaine," said Wine Advocate's Stephen Reinhardt.
The family is proud to own some of the best vineyards in the whole region, including the Erstes Gewächs Höllenpfad and, within that, the magnificent Grosses Gewächs Höllenpfad im Mülberg. Its grapes are taken from Höllenpfad’s red sandstone soil slopes that earn their name by being hellishly steep and having a reddish glow. The soil and sharp incline give this wine its amazing intensity and distinct, spicy, peppery fruit. Critic James Suckling awarded the wine 96 points, writing "sensational balance of stony minerality and very fine peachy fruit”. A superb white that’s delicious straight out of the box, but will certainly benefit from another few years’ ageing.
