The Wine
Marlborough is renowned for its Sauvignon, but judging by this Riesling, the great grape of Germany is clearly right at home there too. Hunter's have excelled with both right from the start. That was 40 years ago, at a time when Marlborough was known only for barley and sheep. Ernie Hunter arrived in 1979 and by 1982, he and his new wife Jane had set up a winery and won six medals in their first vintage. Their success story and the stellar rise of this remote wine region is one of the most remarkable in modern times. Today Jane Hunter OBE (with many other accolades to her name) runs the estate with her nephew James Macdonald as winemaker. With bright apple and fresh lime zip, this 2023 is a great on its own, or with seafood or spicy dishes.
"Crisp, zesty and delicious. Excellent wine. Crisp, lively and full of apple, and lychee"
