Flavour Profile
Illustrious Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 comes from Oakville, home to some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in California’s Napa Valley – or indeed, anywhere in the world. It’s home to iconic reds like Screaming Eagle and Opus One – the sort of bottles only the most serious collectors can afford.
But with this exclusive red wine, you can enjoy that same level of quality at a tiny fraction of the price. Like all our Illustrious wines, this 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a top estate that prefers to remain anonymous, so as not to upset its usual buyers.
We can’t reveal the name – but we can tell you their wines sell for up to $175 (£134) a bottle and regularly notch up 90+ point scores. This one has even gone beyond Gold, winning a Platinum medal at one of the world’s most prestigious wine shows.
Quality across the board was exceptional in 2023. Karen MacNeil of Decanter Magazine called it “as perfect as any Napa vintage in living memory”, noting that “by the time picking began, the valley’s winemakers were ecstatic”.
The result is a Cabernet of real depth and poise – rich dark fruit, warming spice and beautifully balanced structure. Brilliant with a juicy steak, of course, but equally fine alongside roast lamb, slow-braised beef or a mushroom Wellington. Decant and enjoy.
