The Story Behind the Bottle

According to legend, the vineyards of Les Monts Damnés in Sancerre were named by the grape pickers who had to work them. Apparently, they cursed “that damned mountain” so often, the name stuck – and it’s been Les Monts Damnés ever since.

The slopes are so treacherous that harvesters can even be seen strapping on cushions for protection. But with the risk comes the reward. The chalky-clay slopes produce wines that are intensely flavoured and wonderfully elegant.

Bruno and Thierry Prieur come from a long line of Sancerre winemakers and, out of their 30 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc, they consider La Damnée their best.

This wine strikes the perfect balance between ripe fruitiness and crisp acidity, making it the ideal companion for seafood, oysters or grilled goat’s cheese.
