Flavour Profile
Fitou was one of the Languedoc's first appellations to gain a UK following with its warm-fruit, authentic red wines. Here we present La Tire – roaring with character and black fruit freshness.
Why the name? Because eccentric winemaker Jeff Carrel loves his Deux Chevaux (aka the 2CV) and ‘La Tire’ is French slang for the car. For Jeff, the 2CV is symbolic of French automobiles and was commercialised in 1948, the same year the Fitou appellation came into existence.
Every year he sources the grapes from a tiny domaine, high in the hills, whose vines were due to be grubbed up if Jeff hadn't stepped in. Intense notes of blueberries, blackberries and pepper for freshness, it’s the kind of red you can sit back and enjoy with roast lamb or game, perhaps after a scenic drive through the winding landscape. Drive on my good man!
