The Story Behind the Bottle
The special red has been made to mark the centenary of Celliers des Princes, one of the best-loved Rhône cellars and a driving force in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. And it comes in a magnificent magnum. It’s made from Grenache (70%), Syrah, Caladoc and Carignan grown mostly in Principauté d’Orange, whose vineyards are right next to those of Châteauneuf. And to make this red extra special, winemaker Thierry Ferlay selected a portion of fruit from within Châteauneuf-du-Pape itself. He then gave this the kind of kid-glove treatment that’s normally reserved for the cellar’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape releases. Complex aromas of blackcurrant, damson and garrigue. Silky smooth on the palate, with notes of blackberries, red berries, wild herbs and liquorice.
