Then there’s Caroso Montepulciano Riserva, a style rarely seen outside Italy. Crafted from 100% Montepulciano, hand-picked from vines between 30-40 years old, it is rich with deep cherry and plum fruit, oaky spice and liquorice hints. As a Riserva, it must be aged for a minimum of two years – of which six months must be in barrel. This has had much longer – two years in oak – with extended bottle ageing too.
