The Story Behind the Bottle
It’s hard to believe that Viognier, the hallowed white grape of northern Rhône’s tiny (and very expensive) Condrieu appellation, nearly died out in France. Its triumphant return is partly down to one heroic winemaker, Michel Partier, who convinced growers in the southern Rhône to plant Viognier in the 1990s. The seductive, aromatic wines they produced are now in such high demand, securing them usually costs a small fortune. However, our Languedoc-based buyer, Mark, has discovered this cracker in under-the-radar Gard, one of the last bastions of great-value Viognier in the Rhône.
