The Wine
Suckling wrote, "Montepeloso is one of the emerging superstars on the Tuscan Coast". Since 1999 Fabio Chiarelotto has been at the helm. An ardent perfectionist in both the vineyard and the cellar, he replanted the vineyards with the finest clones, reduced yields and introduced finest winemaking practices to express the true potential of the estate's terroir. In 2007 Silvio Denz, owner of a handful of top Bordeaux estates (Péby Faugères and Faugères in Saint-Emilion, plus another in Sauternes), invested in the estate and further boosted quality. Their winemaker is Fabrio Moltard, who has worked with Italian legend Angelo Gaja. Sangiovese with Malvasia Nera and Cabernet, aged 10 months in 65% new French oak, Nardo is a serious, intense red.
