Toscana IGT

From the heart of Montalcino comes this elegant Tuscan red. It’s all Cabernet and Merlot – what’s termed a Super Tuscan – and comes from a small family estate. There winemaker Valeria Vittori weaves her magic with this fine cherry, herb-scented red.

The Wine
Carlo Vittori was a renowned wine consultant for many decades. Yet it was only in the 1980s that he decided to buy a plot of land for himself. This was in the Brunello di Montalcino appellation, to the south, near the famous Abbey of Sant’Antimo and the village of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. Few people at the time were growing grapes there. That has all changed now, of course, and the price of grapes is astronomical. Today Carlo’s daughter Valeria Vittori is winemaker. In Sarageto she combines rich, dark Cabernet with a little silky Merlot, ageing the wine in oak barrels. With bright plum and cherry fruit and a lift of wild herbs, this is a very fine, elegant Tuscan red. Open early, decant and serve at a special steak dinner. Or cellar.
