Flavour Profile
For fans of Italy’s rich, velvety cask-aged red wines, winemaker Paolo Masi’s Il Corto Collezione Privata is an ideal choice.
We first met Paolo Masi in 1994 when the young Italian was fresh out of college. Paolo was fired up with ideas on how to elevate his family’s good Chianti and make it something really special. Over the years, Paolo’s more than achieved his goal.
He makes our bestselling Chianti, always great value, but also crafts high-end Chianti and Super Tuscan wines. Tasted blind against some of the top names from Chianti Classico, Paolo’s wines win hands down. The family estate lies in the beautiful Rufina hills, a small area close to Florence that was making wine before even the Classico region. His vineyards lie at 300 metres on sloping galestro soils, which, along with cool nights, promote intense flavour.
Aged in new oak, this is a rich, full-bodied red wine with intense red and black cherry fruit, floral hints and well-integrated vanilla notes. Il Corto is a great partner for robust dishes, such as roast venison, wild boar ragù or hearty stews.
