The Wine
Founded over 400 years ago, this fine estate is named after the Carmelite monks that tended its vineyards for two centuries. It remained a little-known neighbour of big-guns Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion until in 2010, it was purchased by Patrice Pichet. He brought in the highly respected Guillaume Pouthier as winemaker and quality rocketed. It’s a unique estate, on the edge of Bordeaux city, boasting a high percentage of old-vine Cabernet Franc, very rare on the Left Bank. The team has worked hard to understand the soils, plot by plot. Plus, Pouthier an innovator, has brought in whole bunch fermentation, with no pump over during fermentation, both of which are unheard of in Bordeaux. The 2021 is “deep and seamless” (Wine Advocate).
