Alsace AOC

From a superb vineyard and a 12th-generation family winery comes this classic French white. Most Alsace wines are one variety, but this is a blend of Riesling and Pinot Gris. Pure fruit, smoky apricot and spice, shot through by limey freshness.

The Wine
Alsace is a forgotten wine enclave of eastern France. It lies just over the border from Germany, which in centuries gone by ruled it, hence the strongly Germanic architecture, place names and cuisine. Today it is firmly French, the country's sunniest and driest region and the only one to specialise in Riesling. This tangy-fresh white is from the special Edouard Leiber vineyard and crafted by Maison Cattin, one of the oldest family wineries in all Alsace. Southeast-facing slopes ensure plenty of pure grape-ripening sunshine, while altitudes up to 300 metres in this mountainous climate means lots of freshness too. Make a date with Alsace and enjoy this wine with a creamy pork casserole or a cheese soufflé perhaps. It's delightful solo too.

Astonishing. Love this - it’s got an undefinable flavour, might be pineapple. Lovely
