The Wine
This is a terrific new wine from the four-time winner of Chile’s Winery of the Year, Luis Felipe Edwards. Most of their vineyards are in Colchagua, the valley where they started in 1976. Then they discovered how good the Casablanca region was for aromatic whites. Better still for spine-tingling-fresh Sauvignon Blanc was the Leyda Valley. The region lies just 14 kilometres from the Pacific ocean, so vines are ripened by full summer sunshine, but kept cool by constant coastal breezes – perfect for crisp, aromatic whites like Ocho Millas. The grapes are harvested in the early morning, and cooled as soon as they reach the cellar to retain optimum freshness. Showing bright, citrusy zip, with a classic flinty edge, this is a fine seafood white.
