The Story Behind the Bottle
Taylor’s produce arguably the finest and most ageworthy Vintage Ports. They own three estates, one of those being the superb Quinta de Vargellas, which lies in the steep hills on the eastern edges of the Douro Valley. Regarded as one of the finest estates of the Douro, its Single Quintas are highly sought after and popular for maturing earlier than Taylor’s Vintage port itself. 2019 was quite an erratic vintage regarding weather, but has produced plenty of exuberant fruit in the wines. To make this port, grapes are pressed the traditional way by foot in granite lagares, then the juice fermented in stainless steel tanks. With its hallmark fragrance, this Vintage port is young and, although delicious now, will improve with age.
