As Jancis Robinson notes, “the quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded”. And that is certainly true of our 2016 Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois. Brimful of black fruits, spice and slight woody notes, it’s a highly drinkable Haut-Médoc claret.

Bordeaux has long been at the heart of the Averys, so we look for wines full of authenticity for our own label range. Just like this delicious Haut-Médoc. It’s made for us by Château Muret, a family-owned estate in Saint Seurin-de-Cadourne, just a few kilometres down the road from the prestigious districts of Saint-Estèphe and Pauillac. It’s a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, that delivers dense, yet silky black fruit and spice. It has a great structure too, with that classic, appetising bite of tannin, alongside roasted woody notes. From the long-lived 2016 vintage, it’s full of velvety ripe fruit, now showing lovely maturity. The perfect bottle to open with a traditional roast or a rich mushroom and ale pie.
