Michel Chapoutier is the seventh generation of his family to have lived in the Rhône, and his passionate approach to winemaking has catapulted the estate to stratospheric heights. Such is his dedication to quality that not only does he ensure that his own vineyards are treated organically, he actually pays his neighbours to do the same. His are also raised biodynamically. He has recently branched out with new winemaking ventures in Provence, Roussillon and South Australia, but his roots are deepest in the Rhône, where wines are made mindfully and traditionally. Ageing for this rich and very ageworthy Châteauneuf is all in concrete vat, no oak, so the wine can sing of its fruit and terroir. It'll cellar for decades or open early and enjoy.
