Domaine des Bernoux lies in the little village of Crêches-sur-Sâone, on the border of Mâconnais. So perhaps it should be less of a surprise that the family take such pride in their tiny-production Chardonnay. Cedric Seigneuret was the instigator – he did a spell working in Pouilly-Fuissé and fell in love with this grape. When he took over the running of the estate 10 years ago, he decided to plant a few rows. It's a real jewel of a white, particularly fresh thanks to the cooler conditions of the vintage – a rare treat in the recent run of hotter years. Cedric plays a very gentle hand in the cellar, guiding the grapes through to fermentation, with a little lees ageing. A great choice with seafood, white meats or classic creamy gougères.
