The Story Behind the Bottle
The Graves is renowned for both classic whites and its rich, long lived reds, the most famous of which are Domaine de Chevalier and Château Haut Brion. They come at quite a price, so all the better to find this appealing claret at its modest price. Château des Perligues is located in the village of Illats, in the heart of the appellation. Its vineyards are planted on the fast draining gravel soils this region is named after and which lend a mineral grip and freshness to its reds. Madame Smati bought the property in 2007 and totally restructured the vineyards to improve quality. It shows in the excellence of this fine red. Cabernet and Merlot handpicked, aged for 8 months in vat with no oak, this claret shows off its lovely fruit complexity.
