When our first shipment of Baroota sailed into British waters, we proclaimed it to be our most exciting Australian discovery to date. Several years on, we stand by that statement. The wine is crafted by Kevin Mitchell at Kilikanoon, whose flagship Shiraz rates a huge 98 points from Robert Parker (and sells for around $250 a bottle). Grapes for this wine were selected from a number of top, early ripening vineyards between premium areas Spencer Gulf and the Flinders Ranges. Vinified in small batches, it was blended and bottled unfiltered for maximum flavour. And 2018 was a standout vintage: a "cracker of a year" according to the Wine Grape Council of South Australia. Rich and powerful, it’s best decanted then served with steak or lamb.
