Nicolás Catena Zapata 2018

Uco Valley

Catena is like the Lafite of Argentina, producing some of its finest wines. Named after the founder, Dr Nicolás Catena, this is their very finest red, featuring exceptionally high-grown Cabernet centre stage, with Malbec. A very fine, ageworthy red.

Jancis Robinson MW wrote, "Nicolás Catena Zapata is justly credited with putting Argentinean wines on the world map — by focusing entirely on quality." Their Catena range is a blend of high-altitude vineyards; their Catena Alta wines are a row-by-row selection in the family vineyards; but their Catena Zapatas are a vine-by-vine selection from these vineyards, so the very finest of all. The estate was founded in 1902, but it was 3rd-generation Nicolás Zapata, who made the step change to focus entirely on fine wines. His three children continue their father's great legacy, astounding the world with their top wines that rival the world's best. First made in 1997, this top cuvée uses grapes from 'Grand Cru' Gualtallary and Paraje Altamira.

"Nicolás Catena Zapata has been instrumental in changing the Argentinian wine scene more than anybody" Baron Eric de Rothschild
