Ridge Vineyards is one of the most famous wineries of California. They boast two superb estates – Lytton Springs in Sonoma County and Montebello in Santa Cruz – and are the largest producers of sustainable, organic grapes. They made their first wine in 1962, Monte Bello, and in 1972, released their first Lytton Springs from a vineyard planted 70 years earlier. For the last 60 years, they have received high acclaim from critics, judges and consumers alike. Grapes for Lytton Springs – mostly Zinfandel, with small portions of Petite Sirah, Mataro and Carignan – are all hand picked and the wine aged 14 months in all-American oak barrels, 10% of those new. The cellar recommends serving this terrific red with rack of lamb or beef bourguignon.
