Flavour Profile
Château de Lastours is a striking, historic estate tucked into the rugged hills of France’s Corbières region. It dates back to the 12th century, when it stood as a fortress along the ancient Domitian Way.
Over the centuries, the estate has changed hands a few times, but its reputation for quality has never wavered. In 1989, its Grand Vin was named Best Wine in the World by wine writer Robert Joseph.
Today, Château de Lastours spans 100 hectares of vines, surrounded by wild scrubland and olive groves. It’s certified organic, and the owners are serious about biodiversity – they’ve created lakes and wetlands, planted hedgerows and trees, and built ‘ecological corridors’ to support local wildlife.
The Grand Vin is a classic blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache and Carignan from the estate’s oldest vines, matured for a year in part-new barrels. After six years’ age, it’s drinking beautifully – rich and full-bodied, yet wonderfully balanced.
