The Story Behind the Bottle
Vigne del Malina is a tiny, boutique estate tucked away in one of north-east Italy’s top quality enclaves – Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Despite their small size, many of their wines have won Italy’s top wine award: ‘Tre Bicchieri’ in the Great Italian Wine Bible, Gambero Rosso. And their speciality is producing fine aged wines of the highest quality. Indeed, head winemaker Omar Pantarotto doesn’t release his reds until they’re at least eight years old, and usually much older. This one is from 2009 and has aged absolutely beautifully – baked plum, raspberry, and mocha aromas lead to deep layers of black fruit compote richness and mature savoury notes. A real Italian rarity.
